THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION
With immense joy and happiness, I welcome our School Faculty, Parents and my dear students to this new academic year 2022 to 2023.
Dear friends, a few days back I was reading a spiritual book called ‘Rediscover Catholicism’ by Matthew Kelly. I came across a passage ‘the purpose of Education’ which deeply touched my heart and I wish to share this particular passage because I believe it will surely help you too to find meaning to your life and live your life fruitfully.
The purpose of education and extracurricular activities is to provide opportunities for our children to develop DISCIPLINE.
I strongly believe that once discipline is learned, it can be applied to any area of our life. Those who develop this discipline go off in search of excellence and live richer, more abundant lives. Those who do not find this grounding in discipline do many things, but none well.
God has placed you here in St. Anthony’s School for a purpose, but without discipline, you will never discover that purpose. Without discipline you will find it difficult to achieve your goals which would only lead to disappointment.
Mozart was a great composer, but did he begin as a great composer? No. He began as a great student, mastering the discipline of playing the harpsichord. Only then, from this mastery and discipline, does the individual style and genius emerge.
Did Picasso find his unique style on his first day at art school? No. First Picasso learned to paint a bowl, perfectly like a photograph. Only then, having mastered the discipline of painting, did the individual personality that we know today emerged as Picasso.
So, First comes discipline, then genius.
Without discipline, the soul dies. Slowly perhaps, but surely.
God calls each of us to live an authentic life – a life of honesty and integrity. I believe that every choice we make leads us towards the path, God has designed for us.
So, we need to make good choices and always choose to be DISCIPLINED.
